Service
94 is Stagecoach West's killer bus route.
Operating at up to 6
buses per hour between Cheltenham and Gloucester, the
direct route via Staverton has served the economy of the
region since
1921.
Complemented by the
half-hourly X94 limited stop service and weekend night
service N94, 94 now has the benefit of brand new low floor
buses.
Traffic Commissioner
Philip Brown launched Stagecoach West's quality
bus partnership on 8 May 2004.
To celebrate the
Quality Partnership and the investment in low floor double
decks, between 1210 and 1710 from Cheltenham, Stagecoach
operated alternate journeys with heritage
vehicles, some
of which had been specially PSVed for the purpose. This
gave the public an impressive 20 minute heritage service.
Nine of 10 brand new
Transbus Dennis Tridents with Transbus Alexander ALX 400
super low floor bodywork started service on 8 May 2004,
although in truth four had been on the road beforehand.
All vehicles are "04" registered. This
represents an investment of some £1.2 million. The
tenth vehicle will be used on the 41 between Cheltenham
and Tewkesbury, owing to Kickstart funding.
Passenger growth in
the last year on the 94 and X94 is reported at 12.5 per
cent.
In conjunction with
ACIS, Gloucestershire County Council has undertaken bus
priority and real time information, plus adjusting bus
stop kerb heights. This is often viewed as unspectacular
but accounts for significant money.
